Shopping at T & T Supermarket

04 Sep

T & T Supermarket is amazing. It’s the largest Asian supermarket chain in Canada and it’s my favourite supermarket for Asian products. There are other Asian supermarkets here but T & T beats them in being cleaner, better organised, offering a wider variety of food and selling higher quality fresh produce and meat.

When you step into T & T (or another Chinese supermarket), you’ll feel like you’re in Hong Kong or China. There’s Chinese music playing, Chinese signs, Chinese food at the bakery and prepared food sections, and Chinese shoppers around you speaking in Cantonese or Mandarin. It’s where my kids get exposure to the Chinese culture. It’s where we go to ‘feel the mood’ when Chinese New Year comes around. It’s where Caucasians go to see live seafood! 😉

We went to the T & T store at Warden & Steeles tonight after dinner. We arrived at 9 PM which is the usual closing time for the ‘Western’ supermarkets. Not for T & T, they stay open late. This store closes at 1 AM on Sundays through Thursdays and 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. Amazing!

Here are some of the things you can get from T & T:

Food from Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and China

Stacks of mooncake for the Mid-Autumn Festival

Help yourself to live blue crabs $1.99/lb

Sugar Apple $4.99/lb

Rambutans from Thailand $4.99/lb

Cactus Pear (what's that?) $2.99/lb, Thailand mangosteen $5.99/lb

Langsat ('Won Pee'?!) $6.99/lb
