Growing Roots

I met my pastor today to formally go over my church membership application. Over coffee in Second Cup, we chatted and she went through the membership covenant with me which I signed and that’s it, I’m officially a member of the bridge. I’m happy and at the same time relieved – another chapter of settling in to Canada is done. It’s like when we first moved into our house, it felt good not to be renting any more and also owning a house here gave us a sense of permanence. Right after moving to the city where we bought our house we started looking for a church. We wanted a church that will be right for the whole family. A strong Sunday School program for the kids was as important to us as good worship and sound preaching for the adults. We found it all at the bridge, a church we have been going to since last August.

Being part of a church family gives us an even stronger sense of having settled into the community. Kip and I are now involved in church ministries, he in the music ministry and I in the missions team. In addition, Kip attends the men’s fellowship every Saturday and I attend the moms’ group meeting every Wednesday. We have made many friends in church and we look forward to seeing them every week.

My family and I are taking root here and we praise God for that. How deep the roots will grow remains unseen though. However, I trust in God’s faithfulness and providence and our future is in his hands!

Moms’ Group Meet

I went for the moms’ life group meeting in church this morning. It’s my second time meeting with this group. The last time I attended was a year ago. As I sat on the couch looking at the other mothers, I realised there was a big difference between my first meeting and this one. Then I was feeling awkward and out of place. Everyone knew everyone, I was the only one who didn’t have a friend there. I attended with the objective of making connections with other mothers with young children in the church. I didn’t enjoy the meeting very much and I never went again! There were other reasons for me not attending too; I was volunteering at Big Kid’s school on some Wednesday mornings, that’s when the moms’ group meet, and then Little Guy had his skating lessons.

Today was different, much better! I am more settled in the church, I have made more friends and the ladies in the group are now familiar faces. I know they know me too. I felt comfortable talking and listening to the other ladies.  It’s going to be a commitment, attending the meeting every week. That’s partly why I’m talking about it here on the blog, so that I’ll be accountable and won’t be able to quit just because I’m too lazy to go! 😉

Sunday KFC and BBQ

The sermon topic today was ‘Will I be financially secured?’, part of the ‘Fearless’ series. We were reminded to depend on God and to trust Him to provide for us. It feels good knowing that God ‘has our back’.

Lunch after church was KFC! Big Kid asked for it but I told him it was arteries-clogging food. Read the rest of this entry »
